When the new King County logo was unveiled in 2007, millions throughout the region saw not only a graphic image of Nobel Peace Prize winner and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — but also the work of Seattle Central alumnus Tony Gable and his nationally acclaimed Gable Design Group. Tony Gable started his Fine Art studies at Western Washington University and graduated from the Graphic Design and Illustration Program at Central more than 25 years ago.
After stints with Sears and Boeing, he founded Gable Design Group in 1985. Tony and his firm have received dozens of awards for excellence, and have a long list of loyal clients, large and small, local, regional and international. He has intentionally assembled a culturally and ethnically diverse team of designers to reflect a global perspective, including a number of other Central grads. And he also continues his affiliation with Central through speaking and mentoring, and says enthusiastically that “Central rocks!”
A member of AIGA and past-member of the HOW magazine Editorial Advisory Board, Tony is also a frequent speaker at design conferences. And he is also a well-known musician. While attending Central he played in the Soul band “Cold Bold & Together” (now on iTunes), having spent four years touring as percussionist for Kenny G and later founding the contemporary jazz band “Gable & 206” in Seattle. Inspired by Seattle-raised jazz greats Quincy Jones and Ray Charles, Tony and other regionally recognized musicians reflect the smooth fusion side of music being played in area code 206.
